How You Can Harvest the Healing Properties of the Upcoming Harvest Moon

Calling all spiritualists, energy, and moon lovers- mark your calendars for this Friday, September 29th because there’s a very special Supermoon, the “Harvest Moon” upon us. This type of rare full moon is the last supermoon of the year so here’s how you can make the most of this divine opportunity.

Supermoons occur when  “a full moon coincides with the Moon's closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a point known as perigee”- thanks NASA! September’s moon got its name from farmers utilizing this moon’s light to get more time harvesting the fields after sundown. As we enter the fall season of harvest, this moon can be a beacon of light in your life as this moon’s energy will be with us for the whole month ahead. The harvest moon represents slowing down as we enter the winter, a rest period as we move toward the hibernating season. This season is prime time for practicing  gratitude, managing wealth and resources, honoring your home, spending more time inside, deciding what you can clean out of your home and cultivating connections among family and friends. Take some time this Friday to reflect on what areas of your life the harvest moon can direct your attention to and set an intention along with it. Some actions you may want to take include practicing gratitude, manifesting your desires for this season by scripting (practicing writing your hopes and dreams in present tense), caring for plants and gardens, and clearing/refreshing the energy in your home (using herbs, incense, or other rituals). And if you want to get really witchy, consider charging some crystals under the moonlight or make moon water by leaving a jar of water out to absorb the harvest moon’s energy- your plants might like it more than tap water, but see the magic yourself!

Under the Harvest Moon, it’s the perfect time to fire up your oven and bake homemade pies, make soups–my pick will always be a nice butternut squash soup in this season–and brew up some warm homemade drinks like a hot cider or tea. If you don’t have a gratitude journal yet, now’s the perfect time to dedicate a notebook to writing down all you’re thankful for… and you’ll be ahead of the game for Thanksgiving! Take some time to evaluate your living space. What changes would you like to see? Have a junk drawer you’ve been meaning to get to? Let’s finally sort through it- you’ll thank yourself later. Make your home nice and cozy for the fall by purchasing some fall/pumpkin spice scented candles if that’s your thing or laying out some fall decorations. Take some time to assess your finances and budget, and think of the plans and goals you’d like to accomplish this winter. Have a friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with but can never seem to find the time? Invite them to dinner!

I’ll leave you with some Harvest Moon blessings: may your gratitude show you the way to your prosperity. May your wisdom tell you what you should grow and what should go. May the magic of the Fall season flow bright and warm through your soul. Have a happy Harvest Moon!

Michelle
